To be human is to recognize our lives as gift.
We do not exist and then God gifts us; our very existence is gift, and it is Gods story of triune love that continues to work passionately and extravagantly in us.
That is what rooted means. Our lives become meaningful when we discover and embrace the fact that we are characters in a story we do not create.
The Christian faith is rooted in concreteness. Its beginning is found not in religious ideas or universal principles, but in a particular history and story mediated through the lives of human beings in texts. The story, while particular,
speaks of the ultimate origin and destiny of all things.
The story remains God’s story: God has a history.
